Stephen Baker Baker
Associate
Stephen has worked as an associate for Integrated Skills since 1997. Integral to the team, Stephen is responsible for the provision of the company’s expertise in the fields of public awareness, communications and stakeholder engagement. Stephen’s experience in the communications field is wide ranging. In addition to 25 years working in international advertising, marketing and public relations for commercial organisations, he used his skills in the field of International Development for over 15 years. For International Development projects, Stephen has successfully produced a range of project-specific Communication Strategies in covering areas such environmental issues, economics, infrastructure developments and education. He has particular knowledge and unrivalled experience in waste, including municipal solid waste, landfill, hazardous waste and pollution issues. In addition to developing strategies Stephen is able to both manage and implement the full program of communications, public awareness and stakeholder engagement, including media selection and budgetary aspects. He has created and also participated in training and knowledge transfer to strengthen the capabilities of client organisations.

Shantanu Banerjee
Shantanu is an Associate for Integrated Skills and has dual qualifications in applied chemistry and business administration. He has a strong background in environmental management and international project management, with 20 years’ experience in a wide variety of business sectors. Shantanu has made significant contributions to projects in many countries where it is essential that solutions are appropriate to the culture and budget of the client nation. His key skills include: development of waste management strategies, application of advanced thermal systems in energy recovery from waste, evaluations of waste management and energy from waste project viability, sustainability in waste management, technology transfers from developed to developing industries, development of business and market entry strategies for environmental services in new markets and bioremediation of wastewater generated from industrial and waste management processes. Working collaboratively with partners, Shantanu has experience of technical and strategic inputs into environmental projects at all stages of a project life cycle. This has required inputs into the planning and design stages, strategy development, project risk management, environmental assessment and compliance, project viability analysis, climate change impact assessment, and project management.

Michael Betts
Director International
Recognising a need for expert environmental, waste and management advisory services to government and industry, Michael was one of the two founders of Integrated Skills Ltd. in 1993. Michael continues to be responsible for leading the development of the international work in the company. Michael’s expertise also means his responsibilities include leading, managing and implementing international consultancy projects. The technical background Michael draws on in his work includes training as an industrial economist, leaving him well placed to manage and deliver projects in the fields of environmental fund management, financial economic appraisals and organising, waste water and solid waste management. Michael has worked internationally for over 35 years, especially in Central and Eastern Europe, the Middle and Far East, for both public and private sector clients. He is fluent in German and has considerable French language skills. The key skills of financial understanding and technical abilities means that Michael is ably positioned to deliver solutions which require sound economics as well as excellent service delivery. Examples of this can be seen in his collaboration with government and private sector partners in establishing feasible waste management companies in Eastern Europe and Central Asia. Michael continues to seek interesting and challenging opportunities, which are able to use the company’s talented staff and skills. This includes contribution towards development assistance projects as well as government or private sector funded developments.

Nick Crick
Chairman
In 1993 Nick jointly established Integrated Skills Ltd. with a view to providing expert environmental, waste and management advisory services. Since then, Nick and the company have undertaken projects in more than 50 countries worldwide. Nick is Integrated Skills’ Chairman. This role gives him responsibility for providing oversight on a range of company matters and business development, as well as giving him the opportunity to continue with direct input into project work. He is also involved in promoting the company's RouteSmartTM software. Nick has worked in the field of wastes management for over 30 years. He has a wide experience in waste management and related environmental industries, including technical, operational, financial, commercial and political aspects. This experience is supported by his dual qualifications as a chemist and economist. His particular expertise lies in planning, organising, financing and managing waste collection and disposal services for municipal and industrial wastes. He is also experienced in providing institutional strengthening in all aspects of waste management. He has wide international experience in financial analysis of waste management projects and the interpretation and practical application of waste management legislation. Nick’s dual skills in wastes management and finance means he is well equipped to combine these fields in order to provide comprehensive advice to clients on the technical feasibility and economic viability of projects. Examples of this can be seen in his long track record of fulfilling technical and financial roles on major waste infrastructure development projects.

Maurice Sheridan
Associate
Maurice is an international environmental lawyer with over 20 years' experience. Since 2005 Maurice has been an Associate of Integrated Skills, providing legal expertise on international development projects. Maurice works on projects in Central and Eastern Europe and the former Soviet Union, concerned with preparing their legislation and legal system for the requirements of European Community law. Maurice’s main areas of practice are in air, water and solid and liquid waste sectors, working for private sector clients, donor banks and for EU funded projects. Maurice provides skills in assessment of national legal system and provisions affecting proposals for PPP arrangements for waste management services. He has proposed and drafted legislative, administrative and regulatory provisions to assist the successful completion of tender objectives, and assisting in drafting PPP tender documents and specifications. Maurice is an experienced lawyer in the EU, with considerable capabilities in litigation on environmental liability issues, considering international environmental conventions, and applying EU and domestic environmental law and policy. He has also lead projects for the European Commission on environmental legislation implementation and the compatibility of Hungarian solid and liquid waste management law with EU law on public procurement. Maurice has been and continues to be involved in various Environmental Accession projects for the approximation of EU environmental legislation and policy in Romania, Bulgaria, Estonia, Hungary, the Czech Republic and Ukraine. Maurice is fluent and able to work in English, French and Italian.

Jeff Smele
Associate Director International
Jeff has worked for Integrated Skills since 2011 as Associate Director International, coming from his previous role also as Associate Director with a major UK based international consultancy firm. Dual qualified as a Barrister & Chartered Engineer, he has lived and worked in Moscow, Tashkent and Ashgabat as project leader and senior consultant principally for international industry & consulting organisations. His responsibilities include the direction of and expert input to projects throughout the CIS, where he has worked for 20 years, managing and directing international teams in a variety of sectors. Jeff has managed major privately financed and Donor funded projects and has substantial experience of backstopping projects, ensuring their total and timely completion. With over 25 years’ experience as a corporate advisor, Jeff is familiar with the legislative and regulatory issues that affect organisations operating in countries with economies in transition. He uses his multi-disciplinary skills and experience to great effect with Integrated Skills. This is exemplified by his backstopping role for projects, in which he ensures a project’s total and punctual completion, using his business, negotiating and technical expertise. He continues to support the development of effective partnerships for Integrated Skills, with donor agencies, public sector bodies and organisations with complementary technical skills. Currently Jeff is Team Leader for an EBRD funded project based in Bishkek Kyrgyzstan advising the State Agency for Geology and Mineral Resources on the implementation of mining legislation and regulation. In addition to the capacity building workshops the project will provide advice on a range of specific mining sector topics. The project runs until Spring 2015.

Margaret Casey
Associate
Margaret is an environmental scientist with over 20 years’ experience of waste management, brownfield site assessment, environmental auditing and Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) gained with three large consultancy practices. She joined Integrated Skills as an associate in 2003. Margaret has substantial experience in the investigation, risk assessment and remediation design of contaminated land sites and has a wide knowledge of waste management licensing issues. She also has extensive experience in environmental due diligence in the public utilities, transport and power industry sectors and has worked on a number of EIAs, predominantly in the natural resources sector. Margaret’s international experience has included an environmental due diligence in South America in the public utilities sector and assessing waste management issues as part of an EIA in Qatar.

Timothy Kingham
Associate
Tim Kingham has forty years' international professional experience principally in the water and environmental sectors, successfully advising on institutional development and leading major infrastructure investment projects through all stages of the project cycle. He has provided strategic advisory studies of options for institutional change and restructuring of water services and public utilities, reporting to the highest level of government. Advice on appropriate institutional structures including the introduction of public private partnerships (PPP) in the management and funding of utility services, or the re-engineering of existing established public entities towards focussed and efficient businesses; setting of performance indicators and outputs, institutional capacity building and training. Independent technical due diligence, audit, benchmarking and certification of water and wastewater companies’ assets and investment plans both in the UK, pre and post privatisation, and in several overseas countries. Management of major IFI funded investment programmes focussed on policy definition, institutional development and compliance with quality standards in the water and environmental sectors. Many years’ experience working in developing countries, including preparing and implementing appropriate schemes for sustainable water and irrigation services. Preparation and oversight of numerous water and environmental projects in the countries of central and eastern Europe, and the former Soviet Union. Tim has been an expert witness on a number of litigation cases concerning water projects. Author of several technical papers and presenter at international conferences with a water industry focus.
