Michael Betts
Director International
Recognising a need for expert environmental, waste and management advisory services to government and industry, Michael was one of the two founders of Integrated Skills Ltd. in 1993. Michael continues to be responsible for leading the development of the international work in the company. Michael’s expertise also means his responsibilities include leading, managing and implementing international consultancy projects. The technical background Michael draws on in his work includes training as an industrial economist, leaving him well placed to manage and deliver projects in the fields of environmental fund management, financial economic appraisals and organising, waste water and solid waste management. Michael has worked internationally for over 35 years, especially in Central and Eastern Europe, the Middle and Far East, for both public and private sector clients. He is fluent in German and has considerable French language skills. The key skills of financial understanding and technical abilities means that Michael is ably positioned to deliver solutions which require sound economics as well as excellent service delivery. Examples of this can be seen in his collaboration with government and private sector partners in establishing feasible waste management companies in Eastern Europe and Central Asia. Michael continues to seek interesting and challenging opportunities, which are able to use the company’s talented staff and skills. This includes contribution towards development assistance projects as well as government or private sector funded developments.

Nick Crick
Chairman
In 1993 Nick jointly established Integrated Skills Ltd. with a view to providing expert environmental, waste and management advisory services. Since then, Nick and the company have undertaken projects in more than 50 countries worldwide. Nick is Integrated Skills’ Chairman. This role gives him responsibility for providing oversight on a range of company matters and business development, as well as giving him the opportunity to continue with direct input into project work. He is also involved in promoting the company's RouteSmartTM software. Nick has worked in the field of wastes management for over 30 years. He has a wide experience in waste management and related environmental industries, including technical, operational, financial, commercial and political aspects. This experience is supported by his dual qualifications as a chemist and economist. His particular expertise lies in planning, organising, financing and managing waste collection and disposal services for municipal and industrial wastes. He is also experienced in providing institutional strengthening in all aspects of waste management. He has wide international experience in financial analysis of waste management projects and the interpretation and practical application of waste management legislation. Nick’s dual skills in wastes management and finance means he is well equipped to combine these fields in order to provide comprehensive advice to clients on the technical feasibility and economic viability of projects. Examples of this can be seen in his long track record of fulfilling technical and financial roles on major waste infrastructure development projects.

Alison Crooks
Project Director
Alison joined the company in 2008, building on her extensive career with a major international interdisciplinary consultancy. The EIA, waste planning and environmental permitting services provided by Integrated Skills are directed by Alison. She is responsible for managing and delivering environmental and waste services to private and public sector clients. Her Project Director role includes responsibility for coordinating with NGO and government organisations, as well as teams of specialist consultants such as ecologists, hydrogeologists and engineers. Alison is an Associate Member of the Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI), an expert on waste facility permitting, and also advises on a range of related issues. Her extensive experience in waste management consultancy covers planning and permitting, as well as market research, environmental monitoring and contaminated land investigations. She is also adept at managing stakeholder and community inputs to waste and environmental issues, through effective engagement. Adopting a technically robust and also pragmatic approach to her work, Alison retains a loyal client base, with clients appreciating her approach to project delivery. This is demonstrated by her secondment to manage a client company’s technical department. The secondment was for major waste management contractor, responsible for environmental regulation, landfill site monitoring, transfer stations, composting facilities and Materials Recovery Facilities. As part of the International consultancy team, Alison continues to apply her expertise. Her high technical standards gained from assisting clients in compliance with EU legislation bring benefits to clients in the UK and overseas.

Peter Pauckner
Technical Director
Peter has worked for Integrated Skills (Guernsey) since he joined as a consultant in 1999. He has been a Technical Director since 2003. Peter is responsible for developing and managing of the company’s information communication technology and mechanical engineering services for UK and international clients. He leads the provision of the company's IT services and software packages, covering route planning and optimisation (RouteSmart), Business Process Management with GIS (Performance Manager) and road management optimisation (Trafficworx). Peter has both industrial and mechanical engineering qualifications, which are complemented by his project management qualifications and he is a PRINCE2 Registered Practitioner. He is a specialist in integrated organisational communications and information technology, particularly the design and development of database, Internet and GIS applications. At Integrated Skills, Peter is able to apply his mechanical engineering skills, particularly in relation to design, operation and maintenance of surface water and sewage pumping stations and material recovery facility designs for solid waste management. Peter is fluent in German (mother tongue), English and French. Peter continues to use his information technology and Geographic Information System (GIS) skills to help clients find technology based solutions for a range of issues. This is demonstrated by a recent project which includes specification, design, development and implementation of software for co-ordination of road closures and excavations, using workflow, GIS and database software. This resulted in greatly improved traffic flows and less inconvenience and disruption for residents and businesses in a small island state.

Matthew Polson
Director
Matthew began working for Integrated Skills as a consultant in 1998. In 1999 he established ISL’s own Guernsey based subsidiary company, as well as undertaking consultancy projects. Matthew is responsible for managing and developing Integrated Skills (Guernsey) Limited, which included acquiring Campbell & Bloese Ltd, a team of civil and structural engineers. His responsibilities also include project management of information technology solutions. As a qualified civil and environmental engineer, Matthew combines these disciplines with business and project management skills, and is a registered PRINCE2 Practioner. Matthew has worked internationally, applying his environmental and waste management expertise. He is also experienced in developing services in engineering as well as developing and implementing IT software for environmental, traffic, contract and financial management related applications. He is fluent in French. A multi-disciplinary career has led Matthew to work using his range of skills, looking holistically at complex projects, using appropriate technological solutions. Examples of this can be seen in his unique experience in finding solutions to technical challenges in small island states. Matthew is currently working to explore further business opportunities for Integrated Skills and continue to develop the company’s enviable track record in management information solutions.

Patrick Scott
Director
Patrick is a Director of Integrated Skills based in the Head Office. He joined the company in 2007, moving from a major UK and international environmental consultancy. Patrick is responsible for managing and developing Integrated Skills’ UK operations, working both with staff and clients dealing with information technology solutions, waste planning and environmental permitting. Patrick has a wide range of experience providing consultancy services, with the last 10 years at Director level. He has over 25 years’ experience, with the majority in environmental consultancy services. Patrick trained as a geologist, with his early experience lying in the minerals extraction industry. He moved into the waste management sector, where he utilises his expertise in planning and permitting of new waste facilities and their development from initial market research to construction and commissioning. Patrick’s also undertakes mineral and waste commercial and valuation work for business planning purposes. His expert knowledge of waste planning and permitting issues means that Patrick is able to provide clients with sound advice and present practical solutions issues in the waste management sector. He also uses his waste management knowledge to apply Integrated Skill’s technological solutions, such as the provision of routing software for effectively planning waste collection routes. Patrick continues to act as an experienced Project Director on a range of UK and international projects for Integrated Skills and continues to develop project opportunities for the business.

Kieron Finney
Associate
Keiron Finney is an environmental chemist with twenty seven years experience of environmental analysis, contaminated land investigation, evaluation and remediation. His skills and experiences include Asbestos related projects, Waste Regulation, Air Pollution Control, Contaminated Land, Health and Safety practice, contract management/compliance supervision and reuse of waste soils. Keiron is a specialist in Landfill gas, reducing carbon emissions from operational, closed and historical landfill sites. He is also a Qualified Person (QP) in accordance with the CLaire Re-use of soils protocol.

Timothy Kingham

Tim Kingham has forty years' international professional experience principally in the water and environmental sectors, successfully advising on institutional development and leading major infrastructure investment projects through all stages of the project cycle. He has provided strategic advisory studies of options for institutional change and restructuring of water services and public utilities, reporting to the highest level of government. Advice on appropriate institutional structures including the introduction of public private partnerships (PPP) in the management and funding of utility services, or the re-engineering of existing established public entities towards focussed and efficient businesses; setting of performance indicators and outputs, institutional capacity building and training. Independent technical due diligence, audit, benchmarking and certification of water and wastewater companies’ assets and investment plans both in the UK, pre and post privatisation, and in several overseas countries. Management of major IFI funded investment programmes focussed on policy definition, institutional development and compliance with quality standards in the water and environmental sectors. Many years’ experience working in developing countries, including preparing and implementing appropriate schemes for sustainable water and irrigation services. Preparation and oversight of numerous water and environmental projects in the countries of central and eastern Europe, and the former Soviet Union. Tim has been an expert witness on a number of litigation cases concerning water projects. Author of several technical papers and presenter at international conferences with a water industry focus.
